Fulcrum Red Zone Carbon 29" 2WF-R AFS Boost wheelset

Reactivity and resistance are the key words of Fulcrum’s return to the MTB arena. These two concepts have guided the development of the new Red Zone Carbon, a wheel that can handle challenging off-road terrain for demanding riders. Red Zone Carbon is the result of a long research and development process that has involved all the elements of the wheels, both individually (rims, hubs and spokes) and, most importantly, as a whole, to create a wheel system that is able to meet the demands of high level bikers. Lightness and reactivity on one hand, for maximum performance uphill, and a high level of vertical absorption and resistance on the other, for the peace of mind of riders who want to abandon themselves to the adrenaline of heading downhill with confidence. A powerhouse of technology, Red Zone Carbon is Fulcrum’s new formula for modern MTB use, with all the experience distilled in each component. A functional and unique design is married with a new matt finish straight from the mould (DIMF), with all the specifications that a rider expects from an XC/Marathon or Down Country wheel: inner rim width of 28 mm, light and extremely smooth rolling rim in a wheel that is fully-produced in Europe and most of it in Italy.

Technologies

2-WAY FIT™
Tubeless technology was adopted in the automotive sector, then in the motorbike sector and finally in cycling. After its debut with mountain bikes, it is now time to "put it on the road" by offering new types of wheels for racing bikes. Fulcrum has thus developed 2-Way Fit™ technology to ensure perfect compatibility of tubeless wheels even with normal clinchers and inner tubes. 2-Way Fit™ wheels are perfectly multipurpose for tackling any situation. Thanks to a special indentation in the valve area, tubes are fitted with maximum precision, keeping the tube perfectly stable inside the clincher. The valve for tubeless tyres is also accommodated without risk, with the undoubted advantage that there is never any air infiltration due to sub-optimal positioning during assembly.

MoMag™
A magnet and a lot of ingenuity. This is how the patent for the proven 'Mounting Magnet' system was born. The nipples, once inserted inside the rim via the valve hole, are 'guided' to the point of engagement with the spoke by the magnet. Thanks to this simple trick, it is possible to obtain a wheel without holes on the upper bridge, but with spokes tensioned by traditional nipples! The absence of holes on the rim is also synonymous with a product that is homogeneous throughout, free of critical points or areas of failure. In fact, as far as clincher profiles are concerned, the use of Rim Tape is no longer necessary. The advantages are immediately perceptible: less weight, longer rim life, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility of greater tensioning of the spokes and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, mean more reactivity and acceleration.

Wide rim tech
The Fulcrum® R&D department, following requests from the race courses, has worked to create rims that are about 4 mm wider than in the past. This technical choice makes it possible to offer the ideal base for 25/28mm tyres, the preferred size nowadays. This ensures stability, excellent handling and superior comfort. Everyone agrees that better comfort on the bike equals less physical and mental fatigue, thus enabling better performance and results. The larger tyre footprint creates a better and more stable footing, while the shape created by the tyre and rim junction creates a smooth and stable airflow, ultimately more aerodynamic, thus reducing friction.

Undrilled Rim Bed
The absence of holes on the upper bridge is synonymous with a product that is homogeneous throughout, free of critical points subject to stress. The advantages are immediately perceptible: less weight, longer rim life, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility to tension the spokes more and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, means more reactivity and acceleration.

Cup & Cone
The Cup & Cone bearing differs from classic cartridge bearings in that it works perfectly on axis with the forces in play, weight and thrust coming from the frame, since the balls run on a raceway positioned in direct opposition to these forces. The adjustment ring allows the bearing to be preloaded, so that axial tolerance can be eliminated, providing optimum adjustment once the wheel is fixed to the frame.

Microspline bodysuit
Technical evolution, understood as extreme care in product development, is one of the fundamental cornerstones of every project signed by the R&D Department. It is in Fulcrum's soul to constantly try to intercept new trends and keep up with the most advanced technologies available. This is why Fulcrum adopted the Shimano MICROSPLINE standard as soon as the new 12-speed mountain bike racing drivetrains were introduced, and we will be introducing this revolutionary technology throughout the range. The Shimano MICROSPLINE option will be available on all MTB and E-MTB wheels in the MY2020 catalogue. At the same time, all wheels from the Red Zone, Red Metal and Red Fire ranges and all E-MTBs already purchased and used with different bodies will also be convertible through a conversion KIT consisting of a body and axle.
