Lightweight, foldable thermal waistcoat
The Fly Direct Vest combines a lightweight construction with the insulating power of Polartec® Alpha® Direct to create an incredibly warm waistcoat. Its lightweight construction allows you to easily store it in a pocket or frame bag if the temperature rises. To make it, they started with a windproof, lightweight shell treated with a durable water-repellent (DWR) coating suitable for wet terrain and short downpours. To this Castelli added a Polartec® Alpha® Direct insulation lining, which is incredibly warm and breathable considering its weight. The front features a bi-directional YKK® Vislon® zip opening that slides easily to allow you to adjust the temperature to your liking. Three pockets on the back to keep everything you need with you at all times. Finally, Castelli has decided to make a reflective band at the waist for greater visibility. Overall, the Fly Direct Vest is the ideal waistcoat to wear when your priorities are weight, warmth, and ease of folding.

Polartec Alpha®
Intensive stop-and-go activities in sub-zero conditions pose a particular challenge for functional fabrics. They have to strike the right balance between trapping an insulating layer of air next to your body and allowing moisture/sweat to quickly escape. This is where Polartec® Alpha® active insulation is in a class of its own. It regulates core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities by retaining body heat, but allowing moisture vapour to move freely through the fabric, increasing overall air exchange and speeding up dry times. This prevents the fleecy insulation from turning into a sponge. It’s made of fine synthetic fibres between air permeable woven layers with a core of lofted knit fibres to ensure uniform consistency.
